There is a healthy social side to the Society including dances, parties, barbecues and Carol Concert.

We also organise trips to see other amateur societies perform, as well as professional productions.

As active members of NODA, we attend the Scottish Region Conference, which takes place at the Peebles Hydro Hotel every October.

The Wild,Wild West Party was a great success, with everyone entering into the spirit and dressing up. Characters included cowboys and cowgirls, the Sheriff, saloon girls, squaws and chiefs, the Doc, a gang of (very scary) outlaws and a totem pole! The fancy dress prize went to Nicola as the Totem pole.

We took our annual trips to see a number of the other Borders societies’ production in March.

The show week went well again, with large, appreciative audiences. The kids were the undoubted stars of the show this year and it has planted the seed in a number of them who are back with us for the cabaret. The Wednesday, Friday and Saturday functions for cast and crew were popular.

We again entered a float in the ‘Games’ fancy dress. We got a 2nd. This year, being the start of our Centenary celebration we had ‘100 years of the Opera’ as our theme. With many characters from past shows represented. The Thursday went well as did the Saturday morning, well that was until we were coming back down Leithen Road and the heavens opened and we got a right drookin’. All good fun though.

The social committee will again be providing a buffet after the Saturday night performance of the Cabaret. Details will be posted on the Library Hall noticeboard.

If you have any ideas about themed party nights, theatre trips etc please let one of the social committee know.

We would like to thanks all the members and friends that have supported our efforts this year and look forward to organising more fun for you in the coming months.

Cheers,
Leanne, Est, Alex and Angela T
