(Week ending Friday 30 June 2000)
The Albert Bridge, not many changes in fifty years.
Sandbed, the Lime Green shop front of the sandwich bar in the old Sandbed P.O.at the right of the photo has fell foul of the 'powers that be' and has been ordered to change colour to something more suitable. Never mind I suppose the colour of shop and pub fronts, signs that are too bright, and porches in villages give these 'powers that be' something to do for their huge salaries, and it doesn't matter that some folk are trying to help an ailing economy by setting up new business. I seem to remember a certain pub in Hawick that for years was bright pink, nothing against that, but what is the difference between bright green and bright pink!!
Peter Scott mill in Buccleuch Street, and below at the turn of the century.
This is the redeveloped area that was once
Hawick Corn Exchange,
The original archway into the arcade, Jimmy
Rays barbers shop was behind the left 'hole'
The only 'original' part of the building that is left now. This used to be part of the Marina Bar.
